High blood pressure is a common cause of many health issues we see in modern culture such as heart attack and chronic kidney disease. It is unusually the other way around.
Often times when diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure), doctors will say "Reduce the intake of your sodium and LOSE WEIGHT." Not even EXPLAINING the nutritional steps to losing weight!
"Eat less. Use less salt. Eat more WHOLE grains."
Whole grains?? Those are what brought the soooo many individuals to become hypertensive in the first place! Whole grains are not natural to our human DNA and are truly not required in the amounts we eat them. Sure, if you enjoy your bread then go ahead and eat it, in moderation :).
This isn't about saying do a "No Carb" diet as much as it is a recommendation of eating a lower volume of food and less frequent meals. The less we eat, the less work our body has to do to breakdown the nutrients! 1-2 meals a day full of a balanced mix often works to reduce blood pressure.
I know, waiting until 4pm to start eating food everyday is a a true pain in my ass too. When I do get to eat, I appreciate every bite. The benefits of lowering my blood pressure with this simple diet has given me more energy, less headaches and better vision. If you are unable to wait a full day to eat, then 2 small meals for breakfast and lunch could hold yourself over until the big GLORIOUS dinner you will be eating.
My recommendation on daily caloric intake
- 60% Fat (Fatty meat or fish)
- 30% Protein
- 10% Carbohydrate (Fruit, vegetables or nuts)
