Magnesium:
Magnesium is one of the seven MACRO minerals meaning it is needed in larger quantities than trace minerals
The body stores 50-60% of magnesium in the skeletal system. The rest in muscle, soft tissue and bodily fluids
Magnesium deficiency is very common
Deficiency is known to cause health problems
Magnesium, vitamin d and calcium are needed for bone health
Magnesium participates in blood glucose control and insulin metabolism, lowering the risk for type 2 diabetes
Good for health of the muscles, therefore, the heart benefits from magnesium
Magnesium is given after a heart attack, but could be used as a preventative measure as well
Study shows 100mg magnesium lowers chance of stroke by 2%, may be small but is still lower
Used for migraines and headaches. Low magnesium levels affect neurotransmitters and restrict constriction of blood vessels, linked to migraines (400-500mg magnesium has been shown to prevent migraines)
Plays a role in mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety (evidence is poor, but can be true)
